When it comes to planning a wedding, there are a lot of things to consider and think about. Here are three common questions that couples often ask, and what we like to tell them.

Question #1: How do we determine a budget for our event?

The bride and groom should discuss their overall budget for the wedding and decide which components are more important to them. For some it’s food and beverage, for others it could be the venue, photographer, music, etc. The job of an event manager is to educate them so they have realistic vision of what their wedding will look like for their budget.

Question #2: How does a couple select what food style/theme is best for them?

For starters, they have to think about what they want their experience to be– casual, fun or upscale. Then they have to consider the costs associated with that decision. It is important to note that station chefs are more expensive than buffet attendants and more servers are required when you have a seated meal. Stations are great to consider when there are a variety of guests with different tastes and/or dietary needs

Question #3: What should one take into consideration when choosing a venue?

Location, guest count, availability and cost are great things to consider initially. Mansions are usually broken up into smaller rooms; do you want everyone in one room all the time?

Other questions to consider: Do you have a lot of out of town guests? Would a hotel better suit yours and your guests’ needs? Can you bring your own caterer in or is there a preferred vendor list? If yes, how strict is the list? Can you have the ceremony on property or is it too small? What is the condition of the venue? Other events simultaneously or is the whole property yours? Does it offer convenient parking?

Talk with your partner and others involved in the planning. Keep a notebook of ideas and answers. Keep asking each other what it is that you really want and where you want to spend your money. Begin this process early and you are sure to create a memory of a lifetime.
